The fountain at the entrance to Princeville is the landmark guests look for when driving up from the airport. Located just off the highway, it lets them know they've arrived. When first placed here in the early eighties it was criticized for not having a Hawaiian theme. Perhaps a tribute to Prince Kuhio would have been a better subject. For several years after it was placed, vandals frequently sabotaged the fountain and even stole Neptune's trident (which is still missing). The fountain seems to have finally outlasted its detractors and most islanders have finally accepted it. Pictures and Comments By Doug Porter |
